The 1974 Datsun 260Z was sold in the United States for the 1974 model year only, but was available in other countries until 1978. 1974 brought for the first time to the S30 line a new 2/2 (2+2) seating option, which offered room for 4 passengers and an extra 11.9 inches of wheelbase. These cars have a notably different roofline from the 2 seat coupes, incorporating larger opening quarter panel windows. Some regard the 260Z as the least desirable of the S30 models, because of the reduced performance offered in comparison to the earlier 240Z, and also in comparison to the later 280Z with its fuel injected 2.8 liter motor. But to solve this problem, there have been many Z owners that have transplanted their underpowered six cylinder for a MUCH more powerful small block V8. What this gives you is the ultimate sleeper with neck snapping performance. The car you see here started life as a 1974 Datsun 260Z 2+2. In 1979 the car was purchased by a local gentleman here in St. Louis. He drove it until the mid 80's when he started to transform the car into what you see today. This one of a kind, street legal sports car was built for show but has plenty of go! With the only original pieces to this car being the roof and doors, this is as custom as you're going to find. Powering this Datsun is a 535 horsepower, supercharged, fuel injected, 350 Cu In V8 that is running at 11 lbs of boost. The exterior of the car is finished in a custom mixed blue which looks great. The paint shows nearly no imperfections and is a base coat / clear coat application. The car has a modified Sharp body kit installed that has been hand formed with custom vents to give the car a more aggressive look. The front fenders were given the same treatment and the front spoiler has been modified for driving lights. The rear fenders have been modified to accept Thunderbird taillights that are sequential. Inside, the interior has been modified with new seats, carpet and tons of gauges and switches. The racing buckets are from Reccaro and look great. The rear seats have been recovered to match the front. There is no notable wear showing on any of the seats and all look great. A host of gauges and switches have been installed inside to keep track of everything this motor is doing. Behind the seats is where you will find the fuel cell and dual nitrous bottles. A rear stabilizer bar has also been installed. Under the hood you will find the blown 350 Cu In V8 that has been highly modified. This is a 4 bolt main motor that is fed by an Accel Thruster EFI system that is perfectly tuned. A stage 2 NOS system boosts power to over 700! The block has been blue printed, balanced and O-ringed. The pistons are from TRW and are blower pistons. Dart heads, competition cams roller cam, roller rockers and connecting rods and a Moroso 9 quart chromed oil pan are a partial list of the performance parts. The electronics consist of a Mallory distributor, multiple spark box and Accel coil. All of this is fed through a 700R4 transmission, with shift kit, going back to a Datsun independent rear end with custom made half shafts to handle the power. The car sounds amazing coming out of the custom Sanbore headers and Borla stainless exhaust. The subframe has been wrapped with 10ga steel to reinforce the car due to the extra power. The wheels are aluminum Centerlines that measure 9" wide. These are the widest 15" aluminum Centerlines that are offered. They're wrapped with BF Goodrich Comp T/A's that have good tread life all around. The brakes are discs all around to make stopping easier. This car has won multiple shows including best custom at the ISCA Chicago show and many best of shows from all around the country. With only 2,000 miles since the completion, the car is well sorted out but still in show winning condition.
